If my calls were not monitored and my job not dependent on those scores that is the response I would have loved to have given one of my customers today.

He seriously told me that I should "go prostitute yourself on the street corner so your company can afford to provide me with High Speed Internet". 

I was actually quite flattered he thought I could bring in so much money. Though I am sure he was trying to find a polite way to call me a w****.

It sometime really baffles me how people can choose to live in a rural environment and then expect that they are entitled to the luxuries of urban society.  If you want HSI then move closer to town. It is not my fault you chose to live on 20 acres and have a mule.

Sorry he was so rude- but as I am in the same situation, living in a rural area with no access to high speed it sucks. It's not as if Internet is a luxury- all govt stuff is on the net. My brother's college requires he go on the net to communicate with teachers, submit assignments, check schedules etc. Applying for jobs too- all most all job boards are on the net.
If I didn't live here- people who need nurses would be short one nurse, that's why it's hard to attract professionals to serve people like farmers and miners who have to live where they work.

I do understand where you are coming from as I deal with people who live in the rural sector all day, everyday. I work for a telephone company that specializes in rural communities. I know it is frustrating to not have access to High Speed, but it is something that we are working on everyday to expand... it takes time and money. That guy, unfortunately, is not the exception to the rule lately. Many people get snarky and rude. I try to let it just run off my back, but sometimes... For those in the rural environment it almost seems to become a personal affront.

Have you checked with your local phone company? If DSL is not available then satellite should be.

I was just sharing my pov. There is NO excuse for such behaviour you have to deal with. I have had my share of rudeness working in hospitals-emergency is the worst- everyone thinks they need to be seen right away- even if they have had the problem for months. A fellow I saw the other day complained he had to wait 4 hours to get his cut finger looked at- the cut was about the size of a pea!

I did try to explain what it's like trying to live in an internet world with dial-up. We are expected to use the net, but are hindered by poor service. Certainly I don't freak out to the people on the phone when they say it's not available.
re satellite- major $$$ hundreds for installation, then $50 a month and you still have to use your phone line and have slow uploads. So in the final analysis - not worth it.
Living rurally, you get a lot of suckage- around here there are too few doctors, NO public transit. Sure we chose to live here, but we are citizens too and pay taxes and buy phone service etc. It costs companies more to service us, but they do charge us.

I see by your profile that you live in Canada so unfortunately my company would not be of any assistance to you anyway.

It is also unfortunate that people have a tendancy to react without thought. All they see is their small corner of the world and what is paramount to them. ie the cut finger. Whereas two years ago I sat in an ER waiting room for 2 hours vomiting and doubled over with pain. By the time I was seen they had to rush me in for an emergency appendectomy (the Dr estimates another hour and it would have burst). Mind you they heard no complaints from me first I was too busy being sick and then they had me doped up after.

As far as dial up. I agree though here you can get DSL for less than dial up. Bet you really did not want to hear that :)

Sorry to hear that they messed you up- to many times this happens mostly due to overcrowding, but I must admit some nurses are jerks. I've had some bad experiences on all sides of the stretcher- patient, relative and as a health care provider.

And NO I did not want to hear that.
