Sorry he was so rude- but as I am in the same situation, living in a rural area with no access to high speed it sucks. It's not as if Internet is a luxury- all govt stuff is on the net. My brother's college requires he go on the net to communicate with teachers, submit assignments, check schedules etc. Applying for jobs too- all most all job boards are on the net. If I didn't live here- people who need nurses would be short one nurse, that's why it's hard to attract professionals to serve people like farmers and miners who have to live where they work.
